The Day I Lost You (Extended Version)

The Day I Found Myself

The Day I Lost You. (Extended Version)

The Day I Found Myself.

There are nights when I still think of you.

There are moments I still feel I cannot live without you.

The day I lost you was the day I lost everything that seemed to matter to me.

I lost my direction.

I lost my certainty.

I lost the picture I had painted of tomorrow.

I could no longer see.

I could not bear to imagine a future without you.

I could not bear the thought that our daughter would one day ask why we were no longer together.

I could not bear the silence after the call.

The silence was louder than every argument we had ever shared.

It echoed with every fear I tried to outrun.

Every unanswered moment whispered the same question.

What if this is the end?

I replayed every word.

Every mistake.

Every moment I should have listened more.

Every moment I should have spoken less.

There was nothing left to defend.

Nothing left to prove.

Only the painful realization that love is not preserved by winning an argument.

Sometimes the greatest victory is choosing not to continue the battle.

So I laid down my pride.

I apologized.

Not because I believed every fear had disappeared.

Not because every disagreement had been resolved.

But because I loved you more than I loved being right.

Yet even after that...

I still feared I had lost you.

I feared I had lost our family.

I feared I had lost the future I had been building in my heart since the day we met.

And that fear nearly convinced me that I had lost myself as well.

But somewhere inside the silence...

God spoke more quietly than my fear.

He reminded me that before I was your partner...

I was His.

Before I became someone's future...

I already had a purpose.

Before I carried the title of husband...

or father...

or protector...

I was simply Romeo.

A man still learning.

Still failing.

Still growing.

Still loved by God.

Then I understood something that broke my heart...

and healed it at the same time.

I was grieving two different things.

I was grieving the possibility of losing you.

But I was also grieving the version of myself that believed I could not exist without you.

Those are not the same loss.

One is love.

The other is dependence.

Love gives.

Dependence disappears.

Love walks beside another.

Dependence forgets how to stand alone.

I never want to stop loving you.

But I must never stop being myself.

Because if all that remains of my future is you...

then I have surrendered the future God entrusted to me.

A future cannot rest upon one person.

Not yours.

Not mine.

Love should be part of the future.

It should never become the entire foundation beneath it.

If one day our paths continue together...

I will rejoice.

If one day they do not...

I will grieve.

But I will not disappear.

Because the man who stands before tomorrow cannot be built upon another person's decision to stay.

He must be built upon truth.

Upon faith.

Upon character.

Upon God.

The day I thought I lost you...

became the day I realized I had been slowly losing myself.

And the day I began finding myself again...

was not the day the pain ended.

It was the day I chose not to let pain decide who I would become.

Time cannot erase the past.

It never will.

There will always be memories that make me smile...

and memories that still make me weep.

But time gives me something greater than forgetting.

It gives me the chance to choose.

To choose the man I will become.

To choose the father my children deserve.

To choose the servant God is still shaping.

To choose a future that does not fear standing on its own.

So if I ever read these words years from now...

whether you are beside me...

or only a beautiful chapter in my life...

I hope I remember this truth.

The day I thought I lost everything...

was the day I found the one thing I could never afford to lose again.

Myself.
