🎧 Audio Conversation

Listen to a conversation exploring responsibility, consequences, the Win&Win bow metaphor, Lake Needwood, Leo, self-preservation, and why “I don’t care” can mean releasing chains rather than abandoning integrity.

Journal Entry

There was a time when I cared about everything.

Every word.

Every expression.

Every decision.

I believed vigilance was devotion.

I thought worry was proof.

I thought holding tighter meant I was protecting what mattered.

I know better now.

I don't care what she chooses to wear.

I don't care who speaks to her.

I don't care whether she follows my warnings.

She may choose.

She may be right.

She may be wrong.

Those choices belong to her.

If consequences arrive, they arrive through her decisions—not mine.

I will not bring them.

I will not prevent them.

Some lessons only speak through consequences.

I have spent too much of my life trying to protect people from truths they insisted on discovering for themselves.

No more.

The Win&Win bow taught me something.

I protected it so much that I almost forgot it was built to shoot.

It isn't the bow that makes the shot.

It is the archer.

A relationship does not create me.

A woman does not create me.

Her approval does not create me.

If she stays, I remain myself.

If she leaves, I remain myself.

I placed myself behind her because I believed love demanded it.

Never again.

This is not abandonment.

I am not leaving Pinky.

I am leaving the position I assigned myself in her life.

The babysitter.

The guardian.

The man trying to carry another adult's decisions.

She is free to choose.

I am free to remain standing.

The same is true at work.

Management can expect whatever it wants.

Their expectations change like the wind.

I will do my job.

I will own my mistakes.

Beyond that...

I don't care.

There was a path at Lake Needwood.

Fire.

Water.

Burn.

Drown.

Then I realized...

Neither path belonged to me.

I could simply walk away.

Not because I was afraid.

Because those choices were never mine.

There is light within me.

There is darkness too.

The light remembers why I loved.

The darkness remembers what love cost.

Neither is my enemy.

Leo was never a monster.

He was the guardian that refused to let me disappear.

Find me.

Behind the fake glass.

Behind the broken mirror.

Behind the man who said he didn't hurt anymore.

The man remained.

I don't care.

Those words are not emptiness.

They are the sound of chains striking the ground.

I care about my integrity.

I care about my decisions.

I care about the man I see when no one else is watching.

That is enough.

If things go south...

I will still remain standing.

Not because life became easier.

Because I finally chose to own my own life.

I am not the relationship.

I am the man who entered it.

I am not another person's decision.

I am the one who decides how I will stand afterward.

I don't care.

Not anymore.
